I live within an easy drive of the Banff townsite and I have spent most of my adult weekends either walking or waiting for light. Photography is the excuse; the mountain is the habit. I have stood on this particular summit in every season, more than twenty times, which is either dedication or a lack of imagination. I am not a guide and I am not on anyone's payroll.

I started the journal after that first winter visit, when I came down with numb fingers and a head full of sentences I did not want to lose to a group chat. Official pages are good at hours and rules. They are less interested in the creak of a boardwalk or the way Cascade holds light at eight on a July night. I wanted a place that sounded like a person who keeps going back, including on days that were only ordinary.

The site is deliberately small. I write the pages myself. I do not run a ticket counter. If you write to me, write about the words — a correction, a disagreement about seasons, a note that a trail condition has changed. I will not be able to move a reservation I never held.

I keep a paper notebook in the car. After a visit I write three things: the wind, one ridge I actually looked at, and whether I dressed well enough. That is the editorial standard. If a page here ever sounds like a brochure, I have failed the notebook.
